Thomas Bourne

Founder & Chief Ecosystem Officer

Thomas is an experienced impact consultant, speaker and advocate who acts as a trusted strategic partner to purpose-led businesses and investors. A trained B Leader, Thomas has helped more than 20 companies with their B Impact Assessment and 12 through to full B Corp certification. A commercial employment lawyer by background, Thomas developed a practice supporting corporate transactions for private equity clients in the consumer sector and earned a reputation for a pragmatic commercial approach. In 2012, Thomas took part in the UK’s first masters-level course on the Circular Economy and developed a passionate belief in the opportunities and benefits of the ‘triple bottom line’ approach to business. He left law in 2014 and joined an organic food production and retail business as interim Managing Director where he turned the business around before supporting the shareholders through the successful sale of the business to a trade buyer. He is UK B Corp Ambassador as well as a trustee of the Soil Association. He sits on the advisory panels of a number of impact related foundations.

Laura has a background in statistical analysis and a keen eye for detail. A trained and highly experienced B Leader, Laura's main role is to work closely with in-house teams on impact improvements, ensuring they meet the rigorous requirements of the B Corp framework. She is much loved by our clients for her no-nonsense pragmatic approach. Her pro bono time is dedicated to supporting a sustainability sector initiative to improve diversity and inclusion in our profession. Laura supports Tom with the running of the business and has also led the work developing our comprehensive approach to materiality assessment.

Marina is an expert in environmental management and value chain impact creation working to frameworks including CDP, SBTI, ISO14001 and GRI. Her focus is on helping businesses and their value chains manage resources in a responsible way in order to unlock social and business benefits. An accountant by training, Marina has supported many organisations through major deals, transformations and change programmes. Having seen first hand the potential for business to be a force for good, Marina developed a practice with clients from low/middle income economies, social enterprises, philanthropy and public sector to help them address the issues that are at the intersection of positive change, risk management and sustainable development. An advocate of inclusive, regenerative and triple bottom line economies, Marina is passionate about creating and enabling solutions that can help address social and environmental challenges. Marina was born in Russia, educated in the UK, has lived on 3 continents and worked in over 19 countries, so has a global outlook across a variety of cultures and sectors.

Shlesha completed her tertiary education in the US and the UK and holds a MSc in Social Policy & Planning from the London School of Economics. She takes a detail-oriented, multidisciplinary and multi-sector approach to her work and has a passion for creating positive change. Shlesha is interested in understanding and mitigating the impacts of the global food system on climate change and food security, with a focus on creating lasting change through policy transformations, corporate buy in and individual action. She is currently working with her business partner to develop a Nepali inspired sustainable food brand.

Passionate about leveraging business to build a world that is inclusive and regenerative, Lucie strives to deliver pragmatic and actionable advice while encouraging clients to set ambitious goals and roadmaps. She is committed to taking an intersectional approach to environmentalism, and particularly interested in making circular business models convenient and accessible to all. As a trained B-Leader, she assists businesses on their journey to become B Corporations and helps raise awareness about the purpose economy as a speaker at events. Originally from the UK and having lived in Switzerland, Germany, Spain and Russia, Charlotte has an international mind-set and a fascination for cultures. A people-person through and through, she loves any opportunity to connect individuals and is a believer in the need for more collaboration. Gina has been an active member of the B Corp community since 2015, as an employee for German B Corp: Erdbär, as a community manager for B Lab Europe and primarily as a B Corp consultant. Gina has run B Corp workshops of all kinds across Europe and the UK, helped design the B Leader training in Germany and has led plenty of companies on their B Corp and impact journeys. Prior to discovering the B Corp ecosystem, Gina managed programs for an international NGO dedicated to implementing rural development programs for the global coffee sector. Her background is in sales and marketing, with over 8 years experience across a variety of purpose-driven businesses, from early stage startups to hyper-growth companies. During that time she spent several years living abroad in Argentina, Paris and Dubai as well as working across Europe, learning about different cultures, ways of life and ways of doing business. Away from work, she’s happiest by the sea or in the mountains.

Her work supports companies to embed this pioneering impact management framework into strategies and data systems. She is certified in financial climate risk management (GARP SCR) and was part of the team which built the first online tool allocating sustainability-linked loans grounded in Future-Fit’s framework. Anna's ambition is social and ecological wellbeing to drive the broader economy and is undertaking an MPA in Public Policy, Public Value and Innovation at UCL. Anna set up and coordinates the Wellbeing Economy Alliance’s book club, and enjoys cold water swims.

An accomplished and versatile project manager, with strong skills in stakeholder engagement and business development, she applies strategic thinking, in-depth analysis and creative problem solving to streamline business procedures and improve workflows. Camilla has a BA in Spanish and French and an MA in Latin American Development, focusing on sustainability, social policy and human rights. Over the past 10 years she has been responsible for communicating the impact of the most developed sustainable development NGO in Mexico, who support ecosystem services, eco-tourism businesses and environmental education in the Sierra Gorda Biosphere Reserve. As a B Leader, Camilla supports businesses to consider how responsible and sustainable their business models and purposes are, and look at the opportunities for improvement.

Analyst

Lara is a researcher and analyst specialising in stakeholder engagement and transformational change for an inclusive, just energy transition. Through her recent MSc academic research at the University of Edinburgh she explored low-carbon technologies, policies and markets, the circular economy and energy innovation; focusing on the societal and environmental dimensions of the energy transition. Her final project assessed the cross-over between energy policy and social justice. Prior to her MSc, Lara worked as a PR and Corporate Communications Consultant at Atrevia, the largest communication agency in Spain. Previously, she undertook her undergraduate studies in Politics, Philosophy and Economics at the University of Durham. She has lived, studied and worked in various countries and languages, enjoys detail-focused research and strategy design and aims to contribute to long-term positive impact.
